Overview As a Commissioning Engineer at Optima Engineering, you will be responsible for ensuring that building systems (MEP – Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and equipment are installed, tested, and operating according to design specifications and client requirements. This role involves working closely with project teams, contractors, and clients to identify and resolve issues, optimize system performance, and ensure that all systems meet industry standards and project goals.
Key Responsibilities
Review project drawings, specifications, and equipment submittals as applicable Help create Commissioning Plans, Prefunctional Checklists, and Functional Performance Test procedures Communicate with the client and Commissioning Team throughout the project regarding timelines and deliverables Proactively support document creation, Cx meetings, and deliverables for all assigned projects System Testing and Verification – Perform functional testing and inspections of MEP systems (HVAC, electrical, lighting, plumbing), document results, and ensure systems meet design standards.
Compliance and Safety – Ensure all systems comply with local codes and industry standards (ASHRAE, LEED, NEC) and promote safety procedures on-site.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering field or related industry experience
3–5 years of experience in commissioning, construction, or MEP design.
Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
Experience with industry standards such as ASHRAE, LEED, and NEC
Proficient in CxAlloy, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong written, verbal communication skills and time management skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels
Preferred Certifications & Qualifications
Commissioning certification (CxA, CCP, BCxP, or CBCP)or Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) preferred.
LEED AP or LEED Associate
Work Environment
On-site and office-based work.
May require travel to project sites.
Some physical work may be required, including climbing ladders and inspecting equipment in mechanical rooms.
